A new species of pink river dolphin and a monkey called a fire-tailed zogue zogue are among the wealth of animals and plants of the Amazon region first discovered in 2014 and 2015. The World Wildlife Fund and the Brazilian environmental group Mamirauá Institute surveyed peer-reviewed publications from that two year span, and tallied 381 new species discovered. Industrial and agricultural development could be making once-unknown species easier to find. More certain is that encroachment on habitat will threaten the survival of some of the newly discovered species.
